CSSD SOILED ZONE
The instrument cycle of medical devices starts at the soiled zone of the central sterile supply department. This department is the reception area for used and contaminated instruments where these medical devices are being pre-cleaned first, either manually or automatically. After this, the medical instruments are loaded into the washer disinfector. Within the soiled zone a trolley washer could be located as well as a parking area for transport trolleys and loading trolleys for washers and disinfectors. Products that are being used within this zone are for e.g. pre-cleaning stations, endoscope sink units, clean-up counters, ultrasonic cleaners and spray guns, baskets and trays.
CSSD CLEAN ZONE
After a successful completion of the pre-cleaning, washing and disinfection cycle, the medical devices are being unloaded at the clean zone. The following step is to check and maintain the instruments after which the instrument sets are being prepared and packed for the operation theatre. Each set contains a product label which is being taken out in the operation room and being documented in the patient file. Once this has been done, they are being loaded into the sterilizer. Products that are being used at the clean zone are heat sealer machines, packing tables, roll holders, paper trolleys, open transport trolleys, height adjustable transport trolleys and loading trolleys, instrument trays and baskets and sterilization / monitoring products.
CSSD STERILE ZONE
Once the instruments have been sterilized, they are being unloaded from the sterilizer. Following this the medical devices are being released by qualified staff. Then they are being placed into storage until they are ready to be transported to operating theatre and other departments in closed trolleys. Products that are being used at the sterile zone are sterilization documentation and traceability products, pass through cabinets and hatches, height adjustable transport trolleys and loading trolleys, storage systems and cabinets, closed transport trolleys and car-in-car systems.
